Russian as a Foreign Language
Russian language is the main language of education at Mari State University, as well as in the other institutions of higher education in Russia. In accordance with the "Admission Rules", applicants must possess a sufficient level of proficiency in Russian. Applicants from countries wh ere Russian is not taught in the middle and high school must provide a certificate TORFL ("Test of Russian as a foreign language"). Mari State University provides testing services for a certificate TORFL.
International Office of Mari State University offers the opportunity to study Russian at different levels. We offer a flexible program that is based on the demands of the students who is planning in the future to enter Mari State University or other institution of higher education in Russia.
Classes are held in groups or individually. The course focuses on developing four main skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The main object of the course is teaching the students communicative competence, that is, the ability to speak Russian, depending on the situation, goals and roles of participants in the process of communication.
The tuition fee should be paid in Russian rubles. For individual students, and short-term intensive courses the sum of the tuition fee is higher. The more students included in the group, the smaller is the cost of the tuition fee for the students. Payment can be paid in cash upon arrival to Yoshkar-Ola, or transferred to the university bank account. All students are required to pay the registration fee before the admission.
Mari State University does not provide financial assistance in any form (scholarships or grants) to foreign students-participations in the program "Russian as a foreign language." The University provides accommodation in the student dormitory, or offers its assistance in finding the rental housing in the city.
